| Find your Incoming mail server address | |
| Talking E-mail
can automatically detect your
incoming mail server address if you
are using one of the following E-mail programs: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft
Outlook Express and Netscape Mail.
If Talking E-mail hasn't detected your incoming mail server address, look in the settings of your default E-mail program. The value you should look for is usually named POP Server, POP3 or Incoming Mail Server. Make sure you type the value with the correct case. Incoming mail server addresses are case sensitive. If you still can't find it, contact your Internet service provider. They should be able to provide you with this information. If you are still having problems, please contact etalk@4dev.com and make sure you mention which E-mail program you are using as well as the version. Please mention which values you tried to use for the incoming mail server address and account name. |
|
| Find your Account Name | |
| The
Account Name
will usually be the name before the @ character in your E-mail address. To
make sure, check the
settings of your default E-mail program. Make
sure you type the value with the correct case. For example, "John" is not
the same as "john" or "JOHN".
Make sure that your password is typed with the correct case. If you still can't find your account name or you are unable to receive E-mail, contact your Internet service provider (ISP). They should be able to provide you with this information. If you are still having problems, please contact etalk@4dev.com and make sure you mention which E-mail program you are using as well as the version. Please mention which values you tried to use for the incoming mail server address and account name. |

| Why aren't my settings saved between runs? | |
| This
problem might be caused by having two instances of Talking
E-mail open at the same time. Check the tray at the bottom of the screen
whether Talking E-mail is already open before you run it from
the icon on your desktop.
What could be happening is that you change preferences in one instance of Talking E-mail, and they are saved when you close the program. However, another instance of the Talking E-mail is running with different preferences. When you shut down your computer, the preferences of the 2nd instance are saved overwriting the changes you made. Talking E-mail version 4.0 fixes this problem by allowing only one instance of the program to run. |

| How do I change E-woman's voice to be more feminine? | |
| By
default the voice pitch is set to the minimum. This means that
voices are very deep and sound like a males voice.
To make E-woman's voice (or other female characters) more feminine, try increasing the voice pitch in the 'quick control' panel. Click the 'Preview' button (located in the 'Quick Control' tab) to listen to a voice sample. You can also download the Microsoft Text-To-Speech engine, which contains a woman's voice. |

| I can see the character talking but I can not hear him. What's wrong? | |
| Are
you using Window XP? If the answer is yes, please read the
"I'm using Windows XP and can't hear the character
talking" section.
The problem you are seeing may be caused either by a "bad" installation of the text-to-speech engine or by your speaker volume settings. The first thing to do is to reinstall the latest version of Talking e-mail. If you don't have the installation file, please download it now. Please follow these steps: 1. Make sure Talking e-mail is NOT running. 2. Uninstall Talking E-mail from the add/remove programs in control panel. 3. Install Talking E-mail. 4. Run Talking E-mail from the desktop icon. If the above steps don't solve the problem, please try the following: In the system tray (lower right corner of desktop) there is a speaker icon. 1. Double click the speaker icon to display a volume control panel. 2. Set all the volumes to the maximum and make sure that mute is not checked. 3. Try running Talking E-mail and see if you can hear any difference. |
|
| I'm using Windows XP and can't hear the character talking | |
| Talking
E-mail uses SAPI 4.0 to provide speech services. Windows XP
however now ships with SAPI 5.0 which does not provide backward
compatibility support for its predecessor. Fortunately, SAPI 4.0
and SAPI 5.0 can co-exist together on the same Windows XP
computer.
To make the speech engines work with Talking E-mail in Windows XP, first install the SAPI 4.0 runtime binaries, then reinstall Talking E-mail. |

| How can I set up Talking E-mail to read the entire E-mail message? | |
| By
default Talking E-mail reads only the first few lines of an e-mail
message. To configure Talking E-mail to read the entire message follow
these steps:
1. Go to the 'Options' screen by clicking the 'Options' button in the main screen. 2. Click the 'What to say' tab. 3. Select 'Entire Message' from the 'Read the following number of lines' drop down list (at the bottom of the screen). |
|
| Why is Talking E-mail not reading some of my new E-mails? | |
| By
default, Talking E-mail
checks for E-mail every 3 minutes. You can change that in the
'E-mail Accounts' tab located in the 'Options' screen.
Talking E-mail will never delete the E-mail off the mail server, thus allowing your default E-mail program to receive the E-mail. If your E-mail program is running it might grab the new message off the mail server before Talking E-mail has a chance to read it. It will also delete the new e-mails from the mail server preventing anyone else from finding it later. There are several ways to solve this problem: One way, is to increase the interval between checks that your default E-mail program performs. If you make this value 15 or 20 minutes than 99% of the messages should first go to Talking E-mail. You can also tell your E-mail program not to check for new messages at all, which means that 100% of the messages will be read by Talking E-mail. |

| How do I setup Talking E-mail for two users or more? | |
| While
installing Talking E-mail you configure it to read you own
E-mail. But what if you have another family member who wishes to
have their e-mail read too?
Below are the steps you need to take in order to add a 2nd (or more) user profile: 1. Create a folder called "Act2" under the "c:\program files\etalk" folder. 2. Create a 2nd Talking E-mail shortcut on your desktop (you can copy and paste the shortcut created by the Talking E-mail install program). 3. Right click the new shortcut and select 'Properties'. 4. In the 'Target' field type the following: "c:\program files\etalk\talkmail.exe" -Dc:\program files\etalk\Act2 That's it. You can now run Talking E-mail with two completely separate configurations. |
